New York Presbyterian HospitalView the website - www.nyp.org New York’s best medical institutions have acknowledged the availability of world-class healthcare in the Philippines. New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the state’s best medical center, and the medical schools of New York’s two Ivy League colleges, Columbia University and Cornell University, have picked St. Luke’s Medical Center to be their International Affiliate. The International Affiliate Agreement was signed by New York-Presbyterian Hospital President & CEO Herbert Pardes, Weill Medical College of Cornell University Dean for Medical Affairs Antonio M. Gotto, Jr., College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Dean Gerald Fischbach and St. Luke’s’ Medical Center President & CEO Joe Ledesma. This singular honor has put the Philippines on the map of international medical expertise and facilities, and has provided St. Luke’s an affirmation of its leadership in the field of healthcare in Asia. Considered a byword in Philippine healthcare, St. Luke’s was accorded formal affiliation by the three prestigious New York medical institutions as a recognition of its professional medical expertise, commitment to excellent patient care, the most comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, and state-of-the-art world class technology. To get a glimpse of the strength of that endorsement, one needs only to look at the glittering array of medical specialists of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, the major teaching hospital of both Columbia and Cornell. In a survey conducted among 250,000 physicians in the United States by Castle Connelly Ltd., asking these doctors to name the best in the United States, New York-Presbyterian came out the Number One hospital with the most number of medical experts on the list with 188 physicians among “America’s Top Doctors.” New York-Presbyterian Hospital was formed by the merger, a few years ago, of New York Hospital and Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. The merged hospitals now operate as one world-renowned medical institution with two world-class locations. The Hospital has been consistently ranked as the best hospital in New York state, and among the best in the country; Columbia and Cornell have been consistently ranked as the best medical schools in New York, and both Ivy League institutions are among the ten best medical schools in the United States. These three institutions are not only internationally renowned for clinical excellence and medical education, they are also among the leading medical research institutions in the world. The affiliation agreement makes possible a real two-way collaboration between world-class medical institutions in the United States and the Philippines. The possibilities are enormous: collaborative medical research; collaborative work in clinical care of patients; exchange of and networking among medical, paramedical and management experts; clinical consults; training of physicians, scientists, nurses and technicians in both countries; information sharing; and many other endeavors. The prestigious affiliation of St. Luke’s with New York-Presbyterian is part of the unfolding success story of the medical institution from a dilapidated and financially challenged institution in the 1970's to become the Philippine’s best hospital today. Its continuously growing list of medical experts trained both in the Philippines and in other countries, its most comprehensive range of medical facilities and services and its inspired drive for excellence in customer service and patient care, have made St. Luke’s a byword in Philippine healthcare where it has been named a Super Brand together with other blue-chip companies. Aggressive and innovative management has not only made St. Luke’s the best in healthcare, it has also been consistently the most financially viable medical institution in the country for the past many years. |
