Clinical Services

The St. Luke’s Neurodevelopmental Center offers an interdisciplinary approach in the screening, assessment, diagnosis and intervention of children from birth to 18 years of age who may be at risk for developmental compromise or who may manifest developmental or behavioral concerns. It shall assist in the management of cognitive, motor, communication, behavioral and/or academic difficulties, ensuring that each child receives the best possible care.

The Team is composed of neurodevelopmental pediatricians, child neurologists, child psychiatrists, neuropsychologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, physical therapist, reading specialists, special educator, and music therapist. This interdisciplinary team of professionals evaluates each child’s needs and work together to develop an appropriate treatment plan.

Who Should Be Referred?

Any child suspected of having developmental, behavioral, cognitive or academic problems may be referred for evaluation and management.

An early diagnosis gives the child with developmental difficulties an important head start towards a productive and fulfilling life.

Concerns include the following:

    1. Motor delay
    • Poor head control at 3 months
    • Failure to sit unsupported at 10 months
    • Inability to walk independently at 18 months


    2. Language delay
    • Not turning to sound at 6 months
    • No babbling at 8 months
    • No single word utterances at 16 months
    • No response to name calling at 7 months
    • No pointing or waving bye-bye at 1 year
    • Loss/regression of language and social skills at any age

    3. Suspected visual or hearing impairment

    4. Behavioral concerns
      a. Hyperactivity
      b. Tantrums
      c. Difficult behavior
      d. Short attention span

    5. Learning problems/academic difficulties

    6. At risk for developmental delay
      a. High risk infants – premature, low birth weight – NICU graduates
      b. Recovery from acute neurological illnesses – trauma, infection, others
      c. Children with metabolic or genetic disorders

    7. Other developmental concerns
Programs and Services Available at the Neurodevelopmental Center

    1. Neurodevelopmental screening, monitoring and surveillance of high risk neonates, or infants and young children who may be at risk for developmental delay.
    2. Neurodevelopmental evaluation
