Acute Stroke UnitContact Us: (632) 723-0101 ext. 7399 The Acute Stroke Unit treats simple and complex cerebrovascular disorders by incorporating recent developments in emergency medicine, stroke neurology, microneurosurgery, interventional neuroradiology, stereotactic radiology, neuro-intensive care, neuro-anesthesiology, and rehabilitation neurology. Care is coordinated from the moment of first contact, in the emergency department or out-patient clinics, through acute treatment and neurological rehabilitation. The Acute Stroke Unit has the first dedicated in-patient stroke unit in the country. It offers state-of-the-art management of patients with brain infarction, brain hemorrhage and other cerebrovascular diseases.
The unit works to improve the odds for stroke patients through a fully integrated and multidisciplinary approach to evaluating, treating and rehabilitating patients with acute stroke. Because of its multidisciplinary approach along the entire continuum of care, St. Luke’s Acute Stroke Unit offers several unique advantages to help patients return to and maintain his or her highest level of function. Our Stroke Team, composed of expert stroke and rehabilitation specialists, works closely with the patient and family. Their mission is to reduce death and disability that occurs as a result of stroke. The St. Luke’s Emergency Room (ER) has specific protocols for the diagnosis of stroke and the use of acute stroke therapy. Emergency Department personnel receive training on how to move stroke patients through the ER and into the in-patient stroke center. Additionally, the stroke team receives specialized training in treating stroke promptly and effectively. Our neurologists and neurosurgeons use leading-edge treatment techniques to ensure that every patient receives unsurpassed care.
