Pediatric EndoscopyThe establishment of the Pediatric Endoscopy Section of the Institute of Digestive Diseases enabled St. Luke’s to offer another first in the Philippines. This Section was the first Pediatric Endoscopy Section, offering the most comprehensive array of diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for infants and children with digestive diseases. Children, especially infants, are not the easiest patients despite modern equipment. The section’s staff of pediatric gastroenterologists, anesthesiologists, and nurses, however, are able to close the apparent gap. The gastroenterologists are board certified in pediatric specializations; some even underwent special training in the United States. Likewise, the anesthesiologists and nurses are experts in handling children. St. Luke’s Institute of Digestive Diseases takes special concern for the treatment of pediatric gastrointestinal diseases, with specialists trained in the operation of highly advanced diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for delicate procedures such as upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, colonoscopy, and sigmoidoscopy with biopsies.
