Harvey - Cardiology Patient Simulator

Students at the St. Luke’s College of Medicine-William H. Quasha Memorial and fellows at SLMC's Heart Institute know who “Harvey” is. After all, “he” taught them.

In its goal to advance medical education, St. Luke’s Heart Institute acquired the Harvey, a proven teaching device in use at universities and hospitals throughout the world and the only cardiology simulator in the Philippines today.

Harvey is not a visiting professor, nor a member of the faculty. “He” is a Cardiology Patient Simulator, a life-size 725-pound mannequin, capable of simulating 26 different diseases of the heart, particularly useful for bedside diagnosis. Harvey exhibits the appropriate physical findings; heart sounds, pulses and breathing can all change to mimic the signs of a specific disease. Some of the cardiac disease signs that Harvey can simulate are Hypertension, Angina Pectoris, Aortic Stenosis, Cardiomyopathy, Ventricular Septal Defect, Patent Ductus Arteriosus, Mitral Stenosis and Regurgitation, and other various diseases. When necessary, Harvey is also capable of manifesting signs of a normal, healthy heart.
