The Heart Institute gives priority to non-invasive techniques for the evaluation of the heart and vascular systems. Echocardiography is an important procedure for imaging the heart and surrounding structures necessary for the specific diagnosis of various cardiac diseases.

Its usefulness is as good only as the quality of images that can be obtained from each patient. Thus, technical expertise in performing and interpreting the echocardiographic examination is critical in the use of this tool. St. Luke's team of specialists is highly trained and experienced in the applications of the echocardiogram.

A complete diagnosis and treatment plan is usually concluded after echocardiogram tests are conducted together with other related tests which may include a physical exam, cardiac and pulmonary auscultation, electrocardiogram, thoracic radiographs, among others.
