St. Luke’s Medical Center, through the Cardiovascular Research Unit (CVRU) of its Heart Institute, has taken the pioneering lead in the country’s efforts in medical informatics by creating a unique Cardiovascular Diseases Information System (CVDIS).

Fully computerized and housed in the CVRU, the CVDIS represents one of the most advanced and ambitious projects of its kind in the field of cardiovascular informatics in the Philippines. It aims to develop research with the ultimate goal of providing and improving knowledge of cardiovascular disease in the country and eventually, worldwide.

The CVRU compiles the database of this research and benchmarks outcomes as well as treatment processes with international institutions because all data elements are set against internationally accepted definitions using the same language.

Together, the CVRU and CVDIS’ aim is for research to fully understand cardiovascular disease in the context of the Filipino and other nationalities. This compiled information will eventually lead to quality-controlled, quality-assessed delivery of cardiovascular care and research that is more efficient with equitable resource allocation. Management of the disease will be safe, effective, timely, efficient, and patient-specific.
